As a wedding photographer, capturing the essence of weddings on the Amalfi Coast brings me so much joy. Each picturesque location, from the iconic Positano where I photographed a heartfelt early morning engagement session, to the serene charm of Ravello nestled high above the coast, offers a backdrop that is both enchanting and unforgettable.

Whether amidst the historic elegance of Amalfi or the romantic allure of Capri, every corner of this stunning coastline tells a story of love and beauty. 

Tips for Getting Married on the Amalfi Coast

Getting married on the Amalfi Coast is a dream come true for many couples, but it requires some special planning to ensure everything goes smoothly. Here are some essential tips to help you prepare for your big day in this stunning location:

• Start Early. The Amalfi Coast is a popular tourist destination and gets crowded quickly. To make the most of your special day, start your activities early. By 10am, the streets and scenic spots will be bustling with visitors.
• Dress Accordingly. The weather on the Amalfi Coast can be extremely hot, especially during the summer months. When I was there in early June, it was already scorching. Make sure you and your guests dress in light, breathable fabrics and keep cool with ice-cold gelato and plenty of water.
• Be Prepared to Walk. The charm of the Amalfi Coast lies in its picturesque, winding streets and stunning coastal views. But this also means a lot of walking! Wear comfortable shoes and be ready for some uphill climbs and uneven paths.
• Plan Your Transportation. Getting from one town to another on the Amalfi Coast can be a bit challenging. This is especially true if you don’t have a car. Each town has bus services, but these buses fill up quickly and can get packed. Buy your passes ahead of time and be at the front of the line to ensure you get a spot.

Where to Get Married on the Amalfi Coast

Here are some different options for where to get married on the Amalfi Coast, all equally stunning!

Positano

Positano, Italy, is a dream destination for couples looking to exchange their vows in a breathtaking setting. This charming village, nestled on the stunning Amalfi Coast, offers a romantic ambiance like no other. With its colorful buildings cascading down the cliffs and its panoramic views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, Positano provides the perfect backdrop for a truly memorable wedding.

The couple and I met early in the morning to avoid the big crowds. We captured their anniversary and engagement photos in the serene, early morning light. There are a few locations within Positano that would all make beautiful backdrops for a wedding. You could choose the upper side of town, like the photos above, which will give you the same views of the colorful houses but from a higher perspective. Besides the views of the water and iconic houses, the narrow walkways between houses in the village are equally beautiful and create a romantic and timeless setting for photos.

If you want the more typical photos on the beach in Positano, you’ll want to venture to Spiaggia Grande. This is definitely the most iconic location and there’s a reason why! But if you want views of the coast from a more unique perspective, hop on a boat and capture some truly incredible photos on the water!

Amalfi

The Amalfi Coast is a 30-mile stretch of coastline on the southern edge of Italy. It captivates visitors with its unparalleled beauty, amazing food, and uniquely colorful villages. This is not just an idyllic vacation destination but also one of the most romantic places to tie the knot. Despite its breathtaking scenery, I found Amalfi to be less enchanting than other spots on the coast. But, Amalfi is still a beautiful place to tie the knot.

The town is filled with charming villas, luxury hotels, and intimate venues that provide a perfect backdrop for wedding photos. The local cuisine is delectable, with fresh seafood and traditional Italian dishes that will delight your guests. Plus, the Mediterranean climate ensures lovely weather for your special day. Whether you choose a cliffside ceremony or a celebration in a quaint village square, Amalfi offers a romantic setting that will make your wedding unforgettable.

Ravello

Ravello offers a serene and picturesque alternative to the bustling Amalfi Coast. It boasts breathtaking views of the coastline and the Mediterranean Sea. And the village’s natural charm and elegance make it an ideal setting for a romantic wedding.

Imagine exchanging vows in this charming village, strolling through its picturesque streets, and wandering through the town’s main square with its majestic cathedral. The tranquility and stunning beauty of Ravello, perched high above the Amalfi coastline, create a fairytale-like atmosphere.

Offering some of the most striking views of the Amalfi Coast, particularly from the flowering gardens of the enchanting Villa Rufolo, Ravello is poetically described as “halfway between the sky and the sea.” This small, fairytale-esque town was my favorite, providing a magical setting with both ocean and mountain views.

Capri

A destination wedding on Capri is the dream of many couples who want to exchange vows against the most romantic backdrop in the Mediterranean. To reach this enchanting island, you must take a ferry from Positano. This makes the journey itself a part of the adventure. Whether you’re looking for an intimate ceremony atop a cliff or a luxurious celebration with sensational sea views, Capri offers unparalleled beauty and sophistication.
