Plan the dreamiest wedding with cool, coastal air and unbeatable views at the iconic Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.
To say it simply, the iconic Portland Head Light is absolutely stunning. It is the oldest lighthouse in Maine (built in 1791!) and sits inside Fort Williams Park—a spacious, scenic public park that includes rocky shoreline, open grassy fields, and panoramic ocean views.
But beyond the gorgeous setting and incredible backdrop, the lighthouse offers something even more with it’s historical charm. This adds so much more to your photos and creates such a unique backdrop! Plus if you want a wedding that radiates elegance and true Maine vibes, this is definitely an ideal venue option!
Because it isn’t your average wedding venue, there are a few things to keep in mind if you’d like to plan your wedding here!
First things first—you’ll need a permit to host your ceremony at Fort Williams Park. It’s a public space, so the Town of Cape Elizabeth handles the logistics. They have specific rules about event sizes, setup, and timing. You can apply online through the town’s website, and it’s best to do this early!
Maine weather can be unpredictable, even in summer. Make sure your guests are prepped for sun, wind, or the occasional sea mist. Most couples opt for a short and sweet outdoor ceremony, followed by a reception off-site at a nearby venue. And an extra tip: Rent a shuttle to get guests in and out easily, since parking can get tight—especially in peak season.
Because the area around the lighthouse is a protected park, you can’t plan on setting up a giant tent or extensive décor. Embrace the natural beauty—trust me, it doesn’t need much! Bring along a few chairs, a bouquet, and just enjoy the unbeatable views of the Atlantic Ocean.
