Fort Foster in Kittery, Maine is the perfect spot for laid-back, coastal engagement photos with ocean views, and beautiful sandy beaches.
Fort Foster in Kittery, Maine is such a dreamy spot for engagement photos! With rocky shorelines, and those classic coastal Maine views, it’s the perfect effortless backdrop with a romantic vibe. You can walk along the pier or explore the trails, and no matter what you can capture really beautiful photos along the way. I love the variety in Fort Foster and it’s truly stunning here at golden hour!
Fort Foster in Kittery, Maine is one of those places that couldn’t be more ideal for engagement photos. The park has such a beautiful blend of scenery with the rocky coastlines, wide open beaches, and the grassy areas all in one spot. This means your gallery can have plenty of variety, while conveniently staying in one location.
One of the highlights of Fort Foster is the long pier that’s beautfiul to shoot both on and even underneath it! It’s perfect for walking on hand-in-hand with your person, and is especially stunning at sunset. The ocean views are gorgeous year-round, but there’s something extra special about late summer and fall with the golden light and the crisp weather. Even when it gets a bit breezy here, the wind adds a fun movement to your photos which I absolutely love!
There’s rocks sprinkled about over the sandy shore that can make a great backdrop and even prop for photos, which is probably my favorite part of the whole location. If you want a spot that will give you the beautiful coastal Maine vibe, this couldn’t be a better choice!
The different seasons here in Maine all have their own unique charm and beauty, but can definitely determine the overall vibe of your photos. Here’s what each season looks like in Maine to help you plan out your session!
Late April to early June is a sweet spot. Everything’s starting to bloom, the trees are getting their fresh green leaves, and there’s a soft, romantic feel to the light. You’ll probably catch some lilacs or wildflowers, especially in gardens or open fields. Fort Foster really comes alive this time of year!
From June to August, you get longer days and everything is lush and alive. It’s perfect for beach sessions to dip your toes in the water, and just exploring the area. Just plan around the heat and maybe some bugs; consider planning an early morning or golden hour shoots for that dreamy lighting and cooler temps.
September through mid-October is a pretty magical time of year. Maine’s foliage is breathtaking with the bright reds, oranges, and golds everywhere. It’s a super popular time, so some spots can get a little busy, but if you time it right (weekdays or early in the day), you can get those iconic, cozy autumn backdrops without a crowd. Fort Foster is extra romantic this time of year!
If you want a cozy, romantic vibe, late December through February can be stunning. The snow-covered trees and being bundled up in warm sweaters creates a pretty magical combination. The soft winter light can actually be really flattering, but just prepare and bundle up!
Maine is packed with some truly gorgeous locations for engagement photos, many that I love so dearly! Here are just a few of my favorites aside from Fort Williams!v
